About me
The joy of solving problems is why I code and enjoy working with infrastructure. But in an alternate multiverse, I write poems instead of programs and Python scripts for a living. 🐍
Work
VMware (acquired by Broadcom) | 2021 - 2024
Member of Technical Staff 3
DevOps/SRE for VMware Cloud Provider Program, supporting SaaS solutions in a globally distributed environment, ensuring reliability and availability within a Managed Service Provider model. There I automated operational workflows, monitored system performance, managed incident response, and conducted postmortems to prevent recurrence. I also collaborated with development teams to maintain resilient architectures, enforce service-level objectives (SLOs), and optimize deployment pipelines.
Techtonic | 2020 - 2021
Software Developer // Production Support Engineer
Contributed to internal and client projects. Mentored apprentices, conducting code reviews and provided constructive feedback to encourage their growth as developers.
As an embedded Production Support Engineer in a consulting capacity for Volly, I was responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting software systems to ensure optimal performance, availability, and reliability.
Quality x Quantity | 2014 - 2019
Co-Founder // Managing Partner
Operated a business providing live sound and other services to corporate, government, and nonprofit clients
U.S. Navy | 2008 - 2013
Information Systems Technician // System Administrator // Network Administrator
Provided technical and policy oversight to 7 global satellite offices as a Network Operations Team member, responsible for administration of 4 LANs, encompassing 158 servers, 1874 workstations, and 1800+ users globally. Monitored network traffic, troubleshooted outages, implemented security protocols, performed system upgrades.
Maintained and secured IT infrastructure (servers, networks), performing system updates/backups, and managing user accounts/permissions. Ensured system reliability, monitored performance, and implemented security policies.
Provided frontline support to end-users, resolving hardware, software, and network issues via phone, email, or chat. Managed ticket queues, documented solutions, and escalated complex problems to higher-tier support.
Education
Angelo State
At ASU I'm pursuing a master's in computer science, concentrating on Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity due to the CS department being designated by the NSA for its commitment to delivering top-tier cybersecurity education.
Thomas Edison
I graduated from TESU majoring in computer science. Given the knowledge I’d gained through industry and military experience along with prior technical training, I realized that I accelerate the completion of a bachelor’s degree, a personal goal I’d put off for years to solve real-world problems. I completed it in just six months.
- My capstone project was a research paper titled Large Distributed Systems: Challenges, Considerations, and Best Practices which sought to answer the question: What actionable insights or best practices can organizations in critical sectors, such as finance, healthcare, and e-commerce, use to create and deploy scalable distributed systems that improve latency, reduce operational costs, and ensure uptime?
Hack Reactor
At some point, I realized that one of the greatest ways for me to contribute to humanity would be to leverage my experience and affinity for computers. So, I moved from TX to SF to immerse myself in the field. Hack Reactor was the catalyst for my transition into tech after a period of being self-employed in another field.
St. John’s
I attended St. John’s College (Santa Fe) simply because I wanted all the benefits that come with learning to learn and engaging with great books from revolutionary books across history.
